Interstitial- noun: occurring in or being an interval space or segment: of, relating to, or forming an interstice. Adjective: in or for the intervening period provisional or temporary. A space between things or parts a gap or break in something generally continuous. Interstice- noun: an intervening space, especially a very small one. This book is a brief collection of ten years loving a word and building an ideology and art practice around. I started to illustrate Interim Tarot at a chaotic and collective juncture, the spring of 2020 furloughed and uncertain, my Tarot practice extended into my art practice, and immersed in a strange new world, I began to draw and to make this object. It is a word in its very essence webs in between, and ten years ago it became the center of my art practice and my pathway as I, a body, navigate the world. The word is pronounced “In-tur-sti-seas” with the emphasis on “Tur” lifted from the Latin terra, or earth.

For me it was a word, an idea, and the elaborate branches of its semantic composition, the material part of language, it’s connective tissue. I was young, at the age people tend to fall in love for the first time with a person or a place. Ten years ago, I fell in love with a word.
